SUMMARY:

Responsible for applying design and mechanical engineering skills to a variety of diverse and challenging projects in a multi-disciplinary environment. The successful candidate shall have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the mechanical engineering design consulting business, with demonstrated commercial design capabilities.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  • The successful candidate will plan, administer and design small to medium size mechanical HVAC, energy and plumbing projects
  • Review work for the application of sound professional judgment and code compliance
  • Establish and maintain client relationships; ensure client satisfaction; ensure client objectives are met
  • Responsible for marketing, writing proposals, winning work, maintaining and developing key client relationships
  • Participate in client-rich professional organizations and functions
  • Train and mentor young professionals
  • Perform design and energy calculations and prepare equipment or material specifications
  • Familiar with the AE design process and specifications leading to construction documents
  • Prepare graphical representations of designs
  • Assignments require the investigation of a limited number of variables and supervisory assistance is provided on unusual problems
  • May supervise or coordinate the work of designers and other technical support personnel
  • Experience in the design of commercial, industrial, educational, and governmental buildings, small industrial plants and warehouses, central chilled water and heating plants
  • Experience performing field work
  • Experience carrying project from Notice-To-Proceed through Construction Documents through Construction Administration, including participating in project and review meetings
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Knowledge of general office procedures and ability to work standard office equipment
  • Experience with Microsoft software applications (including MS Project Word and Excel). Experience with MS Project is a plus
  • Experience with Building Information Management (BIM) Revit software and computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software such as AutoCad. 
  • Ability to perform design calculations using commercially available software such as Trane Trace
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload; ability to work overtime if project demands
  • Ability to lead and direct designers thru the project process of design including providing red-line mark-ups
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment and in a fast-track environment
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Perform field work and checking of field data
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Technical writing and strong communication skills (both oral and written) desirable
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients, staff and management
  • Adaptability and ability to respond quickly and accurately under pressure
  • Must be willing to travel


Preferred Skills:

 
  • Experience with MS Project is a plus
  • Microstation a plus

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical engineering experience with a background in HVAC, plumbing, controls, and energy design.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience managing tasks, and small projects
  • Solid understanding of mechanical design and construction standards
  • Demonstrated experience in the design of commercial, industrial, educational, and governmental buildings, small industrial plants and warehouses, central chilled water and heating plants
  • Working knowledge of applicable mechanical, plumbing and energy design codes
  • Experience in leading mechanical design team thru project

 

Preferred Experience:

 

  • Fire protection design a plus.
  • Project Management experience a plus

 

Required Education:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university required
  • NM PE required

 

Preferred Education:

 

  • Licenses in other states a plus; Fire Protection PE a plus

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
 

  • Professional registration in New Mexico required
  • Valid NM drivers’ license required; must meet company insurability requirements
