Description/Job Summary

Position Summary:

WHPacific is seeking an engineering program graduate for the Transportation Engineering Group in our Seattle Office.  The preferred candidate will have a bachelor of science degree in civil or related engineering field, an academic record of transportation related engineering courses, an internship in an engineering firm or public works agency, and a strong interest in a transportation engineering career.  The person in this position will work under the supervision of a senior engineer performing highway/roadway infrastructure planning and design, developing reports, plans and documents for highway improvements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and design tasks.
  • Assist with highway/roadway geometric and profile design.
  • Assist with signing and striping design, drainage design, structure design, construction phasing and traffic control design, lighting and signal design, and other related elements.
  • Assist with detailed roadway corridor surface modeling and design.
  • Assist with preparation of engineering reports and documents.
  • Assist with production of construction plans and specifications.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and tabulations.
  • Participate in a professional organization.

  • Knowledge of standard engineering techniques, reference materials, and design criteria.
  • Experience with Autocad/Civil3D, Microstation/InRoads, or similar CAD design tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.  Working knowledge of Powerpoint preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.  Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Ability to adhere to an assigned work plan and manage time to complete tasks on schedule and budget.
  • Availability to occasionally work overtime, including weekends, as needed.
  • Availability for occasional overnight travel.
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or a related engineering field
  • 0 to 4 years of experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • EIT certification is required or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Valid Driver’s License is required

The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds.
