Senior Bridge/Structural Engineer (P5-P6)
Position Summary

WHPacific is seeking a Senior Bridge/Structural Engineer for the Transportation Engineering Group in our Albuquerque Office.  The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in analysis and design of bridges and transportation related structures, demonstrated project management capability on structural engineering projects, and in-depth knowledge of New Mexico Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, and Bureau of Indian Affairs bridge design procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design of bridge structures in various geographic locations in accordance with various state, federal, and tribal standards.
  • Serve as a Project Manager for projects that are primarily bridge or structural focused.
  • Serve as the bridge/structural engineering discipline lead on projects that include bridge/structural elements.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance on bridge/structural engineering issues.
  • Mentor and train staff to expand bridge/structural engineering expertise.
  • Manage scope, schedule, budget, and quality of bridge/structural work to meet client and business objectives.
  • Organize and schedule bridge/structural engineering work activities.
  • Implement company policies and procedures for the execution of projects.
  • Prepare monthly project reports, invoicing, and progress reports for bridge/structural engineering projects.
  • Availability to occasionally work overtime, including weekends, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in common structural engineering software such as Midas Civil, LEAP Bridge Enterprise, LPile, LEAP Bridge Steel, and MathCAD
  • Proficient in CAD design software, Autocad and Microstation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, and Powerpoint.  Ability to effectively use these tools for planning, communication, and collaboration with project teams and clients.
  • Advanced understanding of seismic design principles and non-linear analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with timber and masonry design.
  • Must be comfortable serving as a technical expert in reinforced and prestressed concrete and steel structures and have a proven background of technical leadership on projects.
  • Knowledge of NMDOT project development policies and procedures.
  • Ability to independently plan, schedule, and perform multiple projects/assignments.
  • Strong leadership skills, verbal and written communication skills, and project management skills.
  • Availability to occasionally work overtime, including weekends, as needed.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering is required. Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in design of bridges and transportation related structures.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • New Mexico Professional Engineer registration is required, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.  Structural Engineer registration is preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License required

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch. The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds.
